"Bhetki Paturi: An Aromatic Delight Wrapped in Banana Leaf"👍✌️
Bhetki Paturi is a
classic Bengali delicacy that is both healthy and delicious. This dish is made
by marinating bhetki fish fillets with a blend of spices, wrapping them in
banana leaves, and steaming them to perfection. The end result is a flavorful
and aromatic fish that is tender, juicy, and bursting with flavors.
Ingredients:
- 4-6 Bhetki fish fillets
- 1 cup grated coconut
- 1 tbsp mustard seeds
- 2-3 green chilies, chopped
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 2 tbsp mustard oil
- Salt to taste
- Banana leaves, washed and cut into large
pieces
- Thread or toothpicks for tying the banana
leaves
Instructions:
- Wash the bhetki fillets thoroughly and pat
them dry with a paper towel. Cut them into equal sized pieces and set
aside.
- In a blender, grind the grated coconut,
mustard seeds, green chilies, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt
to make a smooth paste. You can add a little water if needed.
- Take a mixing bowl and add the fish pieces to
it. Pour the coconut and spice paste over the fish and mix well. Make sure
that each piece of fish is coated well with the marinade.
- Take a banana leaf piece and place a spoonful
of the marinated fish mixture on it. Fold the banana leaf over the fish to
make a neat parcel. Tie the parcel with a thread or toothpick to keep it
secure. Repeat this process until all the fish pieces are wrapped in
banana leaves.
- Heat a steamer and place the banana leaf
parcels in it. Steam for around 15-20 minutes or until the fish is cooked
through. You can also check for doneness by inserting a toothpick in the
center of the fish. If it comes out clean, the fish is cooked.
- Once the fish is cooked, remove it from the
steamer and carefully open the banana leaf parcels. Drizzle some mustard
oil on top of the fish and serve hot with steamed rice.
Bhetki Paturi is a
perfect dish for special occasions or when you want to impress your guests with
your cooking skills. It is healthy, flavorful, and looks stunning when
presented on the table. So, give this recipe a try and enjoy the taste of
authentic Bengali cuisine!
